Song by Set It Off

This song is one of my absolute favorites by them and definitely needs to be acknowledged as how great it is. I don’t feel like I have much bias on this one as I haven’t been much of a fan of Set It Off until I heard this song.

1. Music – 10/10

The music is very well done for this song. Not only do they add creative elements like a trumpet and a couple “HUH” “HUAH”s in there, but they also put pauses in all the right places. It’s a relatively simple beat, but I think it works perfectly with the vocals and the lyrics. I took a special listen to focus just on the music itself, and I can’t say that I was bored or disappointed in any way. They have a video talking about producing the song and Cody Carson even talks about how the music was almost too much for the song until Cameron changed it to something more simple and they thought it was really good.

I think sometimes producers try to make the music super cool and complicated, but that can take the spotlight away from the lyrics and vocals. This change to a more simple undertone but creative side dish made the song what it is.

2. Lyrics – 10/10

There is one word, that will probably surprise you, that explains these lyrics: cute. While it is a topic that can be serious and can be written as such, when you read them, it’s almost like a cute little concept. People who I have played this song around agree that it is a cute song, like, “I’m just doing my little lonely dance,”. That’s how you feel listening to it. They are really well written and add a really nice element to the music.

3. Vocals – 10/10

To say talent is with our short little Cody Carson is an understatement. These vocals for this particular song are so well done. They are tailored to the lyrics and decorated for the music. I honestly don’t know how a voice can fit a song so nicely, but it happened. You can see in the making of the song that Cody just sounds THAT good. No other voice could have fit this song any better.

OVERALL SCORE – 10/10

This song is very well done and well worth the listen. Not only is the song well done, it’s perfect. The music video is also a good time.
