Song Review – Cherry Bomb

Song by NCT 127

I’m going to warn you, if you like this song, you aren’t going to like this review. I never liked this song, from the beginning up through now. I find it annoying and very badly put together.

1. Music – 8/10

I think that although the music is simple, it is very unique and consistent with the lyrics and vocals. I think that whoever put the music together knew what vibe they wanted to give off and did it very well. I’m not the biggest fan of some of the sounds they used for this song though and think that it didn’t entirely match what they were going for. It sounds like for those parts they knew what they wanted but settled for the closest thing to them. Other than that, the music is very respectable and fits the song very well.

2. Lyrics – 2/10

These are some of the worst lyrics I’ve heard. However, they get two points for making it clear where they were TRYING to go with it. You can see they were trying to make a song about being successful and how awesome they are, yet they throw confusing lyrics in there like “If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands” and, “I do not want to be chased,”. How do these have to do with the concept? I have no clue. I feel like I’m listening to one of Fall Out Boy’s new songs when I listen to this.

Now let us talk a bit more about that special line, “If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands,”. This line makes the least amount of sense in the song and adds nothing but confusion to the topic. When you are trying to sound awesome and express that you are “the biggest hit on the stage,” don’t follow it up with a line from a little kids song. This is like if Agust D added ring around the posy right after he apologizes to companies for not having awesome rappers in his title song Agust D. While this was a bold move to do, it could have been much better placed… in a different song.

3. Vocals – 9/10

The one point taken goes to the line delivery… mostly the “na na na na na na” parts. While these are just terrible parts of the songs, they could have delivered those “na”s in a way less annoying matter. It sounded like they are little five-year-olds saying “nana nabooboo”. It sounds immature and annoying.

Other than that little slip, the rest of the song sounds really well delivered. All the members have a great sound and the chemistry they have singing together is undeniable. While the lyrics are terrible, they deliver them very well. They knew what kind of song it was and the kind of vibe they wanted to give off and they really put that feeling into their voices. You can hear what they are trying to express through the vocals and that’s very important.

OVERALL SCORE – 6/10

If you ignore the lyrics and dismiss the annoying parts, the song could be a 9/10. However, we can’t just leave out the actual message of the song and how they decided to deliver it.
