Song Review – 7 Rings

Song by Ariana Grande

This song came out recently and I’ve been seeing it everywhere. Is it as good as everyone says? Or is it an illusion disguised by Ariana’s hypnotic vocals?

1. Music – 9/10

While it’s pretty simple and not too unique, it is unique to some extent. It fits the vibe and the song very well. I think it was a cute idea to add the Sound Of Music tune to the song and the context of it is a very nice contrast to what the song is talking about. It’s an unexpected foil that adds a very creative element to the song.

Aside from that, the music does what it’s supposed to, it adds a sauce to the dish that finishes the flavor very nice and tidy. It changes and builds when it needs to and just fits the song how it’s supposed to. The music was done right and definitely earns it’s 9.

2. Lyrics – 6/10

The lyrics are fine and get the message across, but some of the lines are weirdly placed and don’t fit very well. The lyrics just don’t flow well and are almost below average for placement. While it could be the era of music we are in, I can’t help but be disappointed with them. They definitely get the message out and do what they are supposed to, which is why I wouldn’t go lower than a 5.

3. Vocals – 8/10

There is no denying that Ariana has a beautiful voice, and this song is no exception. The only problem is that the way she sings certain lines is just… ugly. I’m not sure if she meant for them to sound like that because well, the concept of the song is kind of meant to be savage and ugly, but it’s just not fun to listen to. Sometimes there are things that should be sung in certain ways, but the ugly parts just don’t feel like they fit very well.

For most of the song however, she sings so beautifully and shows of her skills. She sings this song with a clear voice and delivers most lines very well and perfect for the song.

OVERALL SCORE – 8/10

This song is pretty good, but not far above average.
